Thirsty Thursday: Blind Melon

Getting back into working out is hard. Getting to enjoy extra shakes & snacks afterward? Yep- I’m okay with that! Typically I drink some chocolate milk, have a little bowl of a healthy cereal/granola or steal a spoonful of peanut butter…. but sometimes I want something different. Enter: watermelon.

Dean the trainer said that watermelon is a great post-workout snack because it is hydrating, replenishes your electrolytes and glycogen, and it can help prevent muscle soreness . Some studies even show that watermelon can help your future workout performance! Yes and yes.

To save myself from having to do too much work after yesterday’s run, I cut and froze all of the watermelon ahead of time.  All I had to do was throw everything in the blender when I got home. Easy enough for me!

Blind Melon: a watermelon & lime cooler

Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups frozen watermelon chunks (seedless)
  • 3 tbsp yogurt (I used vanilla but I think strawberry would have been great, too!)
  • 1/4 lime, squeezed
  • ~5 mint leaves

Instructions

  1. crush mint leaves
  2. Add crushed mint, watermelon, yogurt and lime juice into blender and pulse until smooth
  3. garnish with an extra lime wedge and/or mint leaves

  1. I have a serious obsession with watermelon during the summer, but I’ve never made any type of watermelon drink before! I need to give this a try!

    • oh definitely freeze some cubes and throw it in the blender! It’s good on its own or you can add whatever you’d like!

    • Yeah it was perfect. I ended up eating a bunch while I was cutting it up, too. It’s nice and easy, delicious, and guilt free.

    • Yeah the frozen gives it a little something extra! I feel like I didn’t drink the juice alone fast enough…. but I still love it that way too.

  2. Dean the trainer sounds very knowledgeable. The fast acting carbs paired with a fast proteinsource help to shuttle nutrients for great muscle recovery. You are cute Jennifer.
