Building A Menu: Mother’s Day Brunch

mother's day brunch menu ideas

South Florida is REALLY into brunch- okay, a lot of places are really into brunch. I guess the correct way to start this post is to say that I’m only recently getting into brunch. I’ve always loved breakfast (specifically waffles and whipped creme a la Leslie Knope)¬†but getting dressed and heading out for a few hours on my precious Sunday just never felt¬†like the right thing to do. South Florida brunches have really changed the game for me, though. The sun is shining, DJ’s are spinning tunes, people keep offering me bottomless mimosas and the waffles pretty much ALWAYS come with whipped cream. You win, brunch.

So with Mother’s Day less than 2 weeks away, I thought it might be fun to round up some cute and simple recipes that may¬†help you put together your own little brunch in honor of your favorite lady next weekend. Just pick one thing from each category to have a more personal meal or go crazy and make a little of everything!

The Basics: Iced Coffee  | Flavored Coffee Creamer  |  Cucumber Water

The Sweet: Pancakes  |  Waffles  | Mason Jar Whipped Cream

The Salty: Eggs Benedict  |  Breakfast Potatoes

The Necessary: Mimosas  | Bloody Mary  |  Bellini

Catching Up… Still (No. 3)

In the last few weeks we’ve already discussed the fact that I’ve been a little flaky… Sorry about that. We know that I’ve gone to a wedding and I went to The Office Wrap Party, but a few other things have been happening as well. Here’s a visual of my recent life.

We put up blinds, put together a little corner for Allegra’s stuff near the back door (aka Allegra’s Window), and put up my drunk octopus hook in the bathroom. Don’t you just love objects more when they remind you of animals? No? Just me? okay…

and then of course we have Mother’s Day weekend. My sister is part of an awesome all girls a capella group and she had a SOLO on Saturday. I’m talking a whole song was her standing center stage doin’ her thang and I am so proud of my not-so-little baby sister. So our family celebration started on Saturday when my mom came up to eat a lot of¬†Chinese¬†food and head out to watch Nicole perform. Once the concert was over and my mom was done crying (she’s a sensitive lady) we took this picture. Don’t we look alike?!
Edit: A video has been added at the end for all those interested in some music!

And then on Sunday Dean and I mashed up our families with a nice brunch in the Delaware Water Gap area. Me, my momma and my sister enjoyed some great food with Dean, his mom and dad, and his sister Steph (from Pretty Little Things!) and her main squeeze, D!

For some reason we were all about the LaDieZ oNLy photos on Sunday. Sorry boys!

I’ve also been eating A LOT of guacamole, doing a lot of work while finishing up my business traveling, and working late (I couldn’t believe I was out of work and it was still light out the other day!).

starbucksis it really still light out!

I‘ve also been taking a lot pictures of Allegra. Hasn’t she gotten so big! My little 8 lb puppy has somehow become 50 pounds!!Allegra the Dog

PHEW! I think we’re all caught up all the way through this past weekend now!
Back to your regularly scheduled posts tomorrow.

Speaking of the regular, I’ve been trying to come up some ideas for my summer posts. I have a few things up my sleeve, but what is it YOU want to see?

PS- I wish we had gotten the whole thing but my mom seems to have camera issues.

5 Gifts for your Momma

mother's day gift guide

Mother’s Day is only a few days away so if you’ve been putting off that flower purchase, consider this post your reminder. This year I’m heading to a nice brunch with my mom & sister and Dean’s family (see you soon,¬†Steph!) and I’m really excited to have a nice afternoon with both of our families. Unfortunately things aren’t always so easy. Here are some last minute ideas for those of you who are still on a hunt for something nice to give your momma.

It’s no secret that I like to make things for myself. I love that this is useful and quick and of course it can be personalized to your mom’s personal taste.

I’m usually anti-gift certificates, but I think it’s sweet if you give your mom one that will help make life easier or nicer. A little mani/pedi or really any spa treatment is always a great excuse for busy moms make some time for themselves.

Mother's Day FlowersFlowers are always a good idea. My mom and I have what I call “black thumbs” which means that we will not be keeping any plants alive anytime soon.¬†Bouquets¬†like the one above are a perfect little addition to her kitchen table from her favorite daughter (sorry Nicole).
Dean’s mom is really good with plants, so for green-thumbed moms like her, we’d go for a nice potted plant or something that can be replanted later.
(Pst- Here are some coupons for ProFlowers¬†if you’re looking to send something.)

Here’s another nice DIY from my girl, Lauren Conrad. Give your mom a nice, classy vase, mug,or set of some kind that you can personalize yourself. Nice and easy 10 minute project.

mother's day giftsA nice accessory is a great way to go, too. Clothes can be hard to buy (what size should I buy again?) but we all know that accessories can make an outfit.¬†Anything¬†from a cute spring scarf or a sappy mother’s necklace is sure to bring a smile to your momma’s face. Want to kick your present into high gear? Go for a nice watch, shoes, bag, or perfume set. Admit it- your mom is worth every penny. (To find out more information about each of the accessories above, read more here.)

No matter which route you go, I have a very important reminder:¬†don’t forget a card! My mom is so card crazy that she will ask for a card if necessary. She also still has a homemade card that I sent her from my first year of college on the fridge. It’s really ridiculous.

What are you guys doing for your mother’s this year?
Any other card crazy ladies out there?
